वैज्ञानिकों ने हाल ही में एक अध्ययन किया था और इस बात का खुलासा हुआ है की वायु प्रदूषण के संपर्क में आने में और माहवारी की शुरुआत होने में एक कनेक्शन है. यह अध्ययन एमोरी और हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिकों द्वारा किया गया है और इस स्टडी के आंकड़े यह दर्शाते हैं क‍ि जो बच्चियां बचपन में ही ऐसी जगह पर रह रही हैं, जहां हवा में प्रदूषण के महीन कर्ण देखे गए हैं और जहां पर शुरू से ही प्रदूषण का स्तर ज्यादा रहा है.
