Veteran explains importance of Poppy Appeal

Rear Admiral John Roberts explains the importance of the RBL's Poppy Appeal, as the charity launches this year's campaign.

00:00 I think the British Legion is wonderful because I suppose they're large enough to remind the

00:08 country once a year with the poppy of what so many people gave their lives for during

00:17 first of all World War I and then World War II.

00:22 But they also do a wonderful job for the descendants of those who never came back with the village

00:32 here which could also have people who were wounded.

00:36 I always think that for casualties of a hundred people who die there are probably two or three

00:44 hundred who are so badly wounded that they can't live on their own anymore.

00:51 That's the great thing about the British Legion and it works every day for poor people who

00:57 could no longer help themselves.
