The revamp of the Kenya Electricity Generation Company Gogo power plant in Migori county will see the power plant increase its electricity generation capacity from 2 Mega Watts to 8.6 Mega Watts.

00:09 The Gogo Dam's electricity generation capacity will surge from 2 MW to a robust 8.6 MW.

00:17 This endeavor is a seamless alignment with Kenya's commitment to clean energy and significantly

00:23 contributes to our national objectives outlined in the Global Climate Action Agenda.

00:29 The Gogo project symbolizes tremendous progress in the energy sector, promising economic growth,

00:35 job creation and improved livelihoods.

00:38 Kenyan success is not a solitary achievement.

00:40 It is testament to the exceptional leadership of our Board Chairman, Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba,

00:46 our distinguished Board and the entire management team.

00:49 Current 2 MW to a robust 8.6 MW.

00:54 This transformative endeavor aligns perfectly well with Kenya's commitment to clean energy

01:01 and contributes significantly to our national goals outlined in the Global Climate Action

01:08 Agenda.

01:09 The existing power plant, with its origins dating back to 1958, has admirably served

01:16 its purpose.

01:17 However, with aging infrastructure, it faces frequent breakdowns and challenges in sourcing

01:24 of spare parts.

01:25 The redevelopment will rejuvenate the reliability of the power supply, stimulate socioeconomic

01:31 activities and contribute to the prosperity of Nyanza and Western Kenya regions.

01:38 I am confident that the Gogo Hydropower Plant redevelopment project will contribute significantly

01:45 to the progress and prosperity of Western Kenya.

01:49 I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Kenya and our leader, His Excellency

01:56 the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, for the great support we have received as a company.

02:02 Considering the experience we have, we know we can harness our experience to improve the

02:06 efficiency at which we generate electricity.

02:09 And that will go a long way in reducing the cost.

02:12 In fact, if you compare the average cost of electricity that we sell to KTLC from what

02:19 we produce from the other generators, you find that our cost is quite reasonable.

02:24 And that is what contributes to a better price for electricity in this country.

02:30 So we are also looking at other options of where we can also continue increasing our

02:35 generation.

02:36 For example, like we have said, we are going to redevelop Gogo and have it have more capacity.

02:42 Obviously, the sale of our electricity to KTLC will be at a lower price.

02:47 We are also looking at our geothermal fields where we can be able to generate more geothermal

02:53 power, again at a lower cost because of our experience in geothermal electricity.

02:59 We are also looking at going into solar.

03:01 It will be the first time that we are now going to embark on solar.

03:06 Even though we are managing the solar station for Rerek in Garissa, we are going to put

03:11 up our own hydro power stations at Seven Forks.

03:15 And what we envisage is that this solar, if you utilize it during the day, you are able

03:22 to build up the water levels for the dams at night, I mean during the day, and then

03:28 you are able to use the water during the night to be able to supply power.

03:31 So they will work very well complementing each other.

03:34 So we have a role to play in ensuring that electricity is reasonably priced in this country.
