Kiambu govt in the process of recovering unlawfully acquired land

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and his administration are collaborating with the National Land Commission (NLC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to reclaim parcels of unlawfully acquired land.

00:03 where we have said that we have to recover all public land,

00:07 which has been previously taken or grabbed

00:12 by people who are not deserving

00:14 or people who thought that they were better

00:15 than the rest of the One Inch.

00:18 And the collaboration we've had

00:21 between the National Land Commission,

00:23 collaboration that we have with the DCI

00:26 and other organs is bearing fruit.

00:28 We've started to receive titles

00:30 and today from National Land Commission,

00:31 we are receiving six title deeds.

00:34 Among the others that we've received elsewhere.

00:37 And we are saying that these title deeds,

00:40 which have been surrendered,

00:42 one was for an open space,

00:45 Tinganga Shiana Block 1, 740, it was open space.

00:48 This is where you build a classroom for people.

00:51 This is where you build parking for people.

00:53 This is where you build other public facilities

00:57 like dispensaries, when it is an open space for a One Inch.

01:02 There's another one that has been surrendered,

01:04 which had been hitherto grabbed, it was for a cattle dip.

01:08 There's another one that was for a spring.

01:10 Spring, this is where you give public water.

01:13 That's where you would tap water to feed the entire,

01:17 to water the entire community.

01:19 We've also received the title deed

01:22 and we also have received Tinganga Shiana Block 1,

01:27 2170, that was also another open space.

01:30 And Tinganga Shiana Block 1, 220, which was a market.

01:35 Market for our women.

01:36 And that is why we are saying

01:38 that I want to take this opportunity

01:41 to specifically thank the National Land Commission,

01:43 because they've done a good job.

01:46 They've been vigilant and worked hand in hand with us.

01:48 I want to thank the DCI's office,

01:50 and other leaders within the community,

01:53 the County Commissioner's office,

01:55 who have worked with us to ensure

01:58 that we are recovering all public land.

02:01 Surrender public land,

02:03 which we have evidence and documentation

02:05 to show that it is public land,

02:08 which they have refused to return.

02:11 We shall initiate the mechanisms to recover the land.

02:14 And we have no doubt about it,

02:17 that we shall recover that land

02:18 and it will be put to the right use.

02:20 That is the way it's supposed to be.

02:22 And the Kiambu, we are strict about

02:25 the following of public rule.

02:26 And we are the government right now.

02:29 So we shall ensure that if it is public land,

02:32 the burden of proof lies with the person

02:35 who is claiming it is his, not vice versa.

02:37 Because you know, people have been sitting on land

02:40 which they took cunningly,

02:42 and then they pretend that the burden of proof

02:45 is on the government.

02:46 It is on them to prove that it is land that they bought.

02:48 If you bought genuinely, we have no issue.

02:50 If you inherited genuinely, we have no issue.

02:53 But if you took land that you know does not belong to you,

02:56 belongs to Raya, then you have a problem with us.
