Spirit of Tasmania has appointed Tasmanian production company HYPE TV to document the construction of the two new Spirit of Tasmania ships. Video by Spirit Of Tasmania

00:11 (Dr. David Cooke) It's been a long time in the making.

00:13 It's something that we're very excited about.

00:15 It's just going to create an unbelievable customer experience

00:18 for the people of Tasmania and our customer base in Victoria

00:21 and the rest of Australia.

00:23 (Dr. Andrew Gwynne) Spirit of Tasmania operates a ROPEX service

00:28 between Tasmania, the southernmost island off Australia,

00:31 and Victoria, Geelong,

00:33 and we provide a passenger and a freight service.

00:36 Sixty percent of our business is passenger

00:38 and forty percent of that is freight.

00:40 We're a vital link between the Tasmania island and the mainland

00:46 and it provides a huge boost in the economy in Tasmania

00:50 over twelve months of the year.

00:55 We're really looking forward to our passengers

00:58 boarding these new vessels.

00:59 They will see a much larger vessel.

01:01 There'll be a lot more space per passenger.

01:03 We've committed to have as much Tasmanian Australian content

01:07 on these new ships as we possibly can

01:10 and it's also providing opportunity for some of our Tasmanian suppliers

01:13 to be showcased in Europe in the shipbuilding industry.

01:17 We're very proud of our relationship with the Finnish people

01:23 and the quality of workmanship that comes out of Finland.

01:26 Our current vessels that we run at the moment

01:28 were built only an hour away in Turku.

01:31 So to actually have these ships being built in Rauma

01:34 with Rauma Marine Constructions,

01:36 we know the quality of the workmanship,

01:38 we know the longevity,

01:40 and the current vessels that we operate

01:42 have a fantastic reputation around the world

01:45 and we fully expect the same with these new vessels.

01:47 We cannot wait for the first vessel to leave the docks here in Rauma

01:52 and travel across to Tasmania

01:54 and for all of our Tasmanian population to see the ships,

01:57 all of our crew to be trained on those ships,

01:59 and to have that first ship in service as soon as we can.
