00:24 Have you spoken to Trump at all about Scalise's health concerns?

00:27 I haven't talked with Mr. President.

00:31 Could you go into those concerns a little bit?

00:32 You said that you couldn't get to Scalise because of his blood cancer diagnosis, right?

00:36 Well, number one, I do support Jim Jordan.

00:38 But I also have concerns about his cancer.

00:41 And I say that with tremendous compassion.

00:44 My father passed away with cancer.

00:47 And I brought it up in our conference meeting there.

00:51 The way I see it is our country is in extraordinary times.

00:56 War is breaking out all over the world.

00:57 That's very serious.

00:59 We stand with Israel and are all watching what's happening over there.

01:05 Our country is continuing to fund a war in Ukraine.

01:08 Our border is wide open.

01:10 And we're on the verge of a recession with inflation that's crippling people.

01:14 And I said it like this.

01:17 Basically, and it's hard to say, but it's real, this is the truth, is when you're in

01:23 a tight game and there's a lot of pressure happening, you don't put an injured player

01:27 or a sick player on the field.

01:28 That's not the right thing to do for that player.

01:31 And it's not the right thing to do for the team.

01:35 And Steve Scalise's district elected him.

01:38 And if we elect a speaker, we elect a speaker, not his staff.

01:42 And that's the reality.

01:43 And I think that's very important.

01:44 It's hard to talk about, but it's an important reality.

01:48 And I say that as a person that is concerned about the president of the United States probably

01:54 having dementia.

01:55 I say that concerned about an 80-year-old Democrat leader in the Senate.

01:59 I say that concerned about the Republican minority leader in the Senate that looks like

02:03 he has many strokes on camera.

02:05 I say that about any office holder.

02:08 They need to be at their best and they need to be at their strongest.

02:11 And I say that in the greatest respect for Steve Scalise.

02:14 I want to see him beat cancer.

02:17 He's the median speaker of the House, traveling all over the country, having one of the hardest

02:22 jobs in the world, the hardest job in Congress.

02:26 It's not the time for this to happen.

02:28 I support Jim Jordan.

02:30 He is a fighter.

02:31 He's a conservative.

02:33 And he also upholds the same policies that President Trump has, America first.

02:39 And that's what Republican voters all over the country support.

02:44 Where do you go from here then?

02:47 We go to the House floor and we get in front of the American people because they deserve

02:55 In that room, when it's a private secret ballot, they'll change on the House floor when people

03:04 get phone calls from their district.

03:10 I think it looks, it's not a good look for the Republican conference, unwilling to go

03:17 Did leadership give any indication that that's the plan?

03:20 And I believe in the conference meeting because I'm tired of the revolving door of the same

03:24 over and over speeches.

03:25 I'm ready to get it done.

03:28 Would you urge McCarthy to come back?

03:31 If that's what needs to happen, he certainly had over 96 percent of our conference.

03:35 It was just 4 percent of our conference that voted to oust him.

03:40 But right now I'm supporting Jim Jordan and I'm ready to go to the floor and vote.
