What building in Sheffield would you like to see given blue plaques?

00:04 you'd like the plaques to be? Yeah I wonder if the Cutlass Hall could have something about

00:09 women's rights and about the suffragette movement. I understand that there are links there with the

00:15 building and in Sheffield generally so it would be kind of finding the right buildings for it.

00:21 Are there any buildings in Sheffield that you think ought to have a blue plaque

00:26 and what would they be? I think probably Leadmill, Winnieham, some of the famous bands that have

00:30 played there. Are there any ones in particular that spring to mind? I think Monkeys, I don't think there are any others.

00:38 The Ely Cinema. Why would you like to see it there? It's the very, I think it's

00:45 the oldest now, the oldest cinema in Sheffield because the classic's gone. Studio 5, 6 and 7

00:51 is gone so that would be a great idea to save. Then there's the Old Town Hall, what used to be the old

00:57 court building as well. That'd be nice to make into a market which would be brilliant, absolutely.

01:09 everything's going down the moor. Nothing for this end, now Wilkinson's has gone which was sad.

01:23 Barnsley's booming. Has the Old Town Hall got enough history for a blue plaque do you think?

01:28 Yeah, it was the Old Town Hall so I believe.

01:39 The Cuthbert Hall because it's a very lovely building inside and many, many years ago we used

01:45 to go dancing there and we used to have our workshops there actually. It's lovely inside,

01:50 it's a beautiful place. Blue plaques, they're kind of tricky, you'd have to know quite a bit

01:54 of history of Sheffield but I can maybe think of one person who I think is sorely missed,

01:59 I sorely missed them, having watched, well being a bit of a geek towards Parliament and having

02:05 watched the Lords, really miss Sir Bob Kerslake who was Chief Executive of the Council here for

02:10 a good period and went on to be bumped up into the Lords very necessarily. He was very effective

02:17 after running the Civil Service for a while and he made a large difference during these

02:22 wilderness Tory years. He helped hold them to the line and bring them back to finer forms of

02:28 thought while he was working there. I'd love to see a blue plaque of him up on a building.

02:33 Around the Town Hall or something? Possibly on the Town Hall, maybe on Surrey House,

02:37 possibly even in Orchard Square where lots of people will see it and be reminded of him,

02:45 he is sorely missed and sorely lost. The Sir Frederick Mapping Building on Mapping Street

02:52 because of all the people that's worked there over 100 years learning to become engineers and

02:56 everything and I think it's a marvellous building from outside. Yes I think the Crucible is a good

03:04 one, I mean they host a lot of Snoopy Championships there, a lot of famous people have been there

03:11 and you know it's a good venue and they do a good service. I'm disabled and I get a concession

03:21 to go there and it's changed my life, it gets me out and gets to see different people and different

03:27 things.
