Sikkim Floods: 14 Dead, 102 Missing As Cloudburst Triggers Flash Flood In Teesta River

North West Sikkim's South Lhonak Lake Experienced A Cloudburst On October 3 That Triggered Flash Floods. The Gangtok District Administration Was Notified That River Teesta Was Being Swept By The Flash Floods As It Moved Past Singtam Town, Around 30 Kilometers From Gangtok. So Far 14 Civilians Are Dead And 102 People Have Gone Missing. The Government Has Set Up Relief Camps In The State But Due To A Lack Of Connectivity With Chungthang, The Indian Army & Other Paramilitaries Have Set Up Camps There. The Chungthang Police Station Is Destroyed By Floods And 13 To 14 Officials Working At Chungthang Dam Are Stranded. Around 3,000 Tourists Are Stranded. The State Government Appealed To The Central Government To Provide Three Platoons Of NDRF To Provide The Required Help And The Request Was Approved.
