00:00 When I was researching after the forest, I went backpacking in the Black Forest on my

00:04 own for a week.

00:06 And it was just magical.

00:08 And so many beautiful things happened there.

00:11 But my favourite day was a day that I'd planned to go to a bear and wolf sanctuary in the

00:15 next village.

00:17 And I missed my bus to the village, and I ended up deciding to walk.

00:24 So I found a forest path that went up over the mountains between the villages.

00:27 So I had a proper hike, and it was just incredibly beautiful.

00:30 And I found a ruined castle on top of the hill, which is an inspiration for one of the

00:35 settings in the book.

00:36 And it was amazing.

00:38 And then continued down to the next village to the bear and wolf sanctuary, where the

00:42 lovely lady at the front desk told me that I wasn't going to see the wolves.

00:46 There are only three of them.

00:48 They're rescue wolves.

00:49 They're incredibly shy.

00:50 And she said, "No one's seen them for two weeks.

00:53 You're not going to see the wolves."

00:54 And I went, "That's okay.

00:55 I'm sort of here for the bears, really."

00:57 So I went into the sanctuary, and it's this beautiful sanctuary with massive pine trees,

01:03 very green and open and beautiful.

01:05 And I wandered through, and it started to rain.

01:10 Everybody else took off to the little gift shop, cafe, to get a cup of coffee and wait

01:15 out the rain.

01:16 But I thought, "I'm not doing that.

01:18 I'm just going to put on my hoodie.

01:21 I'm just going to be in the rain.

01:23 I love the rain."

01:24 And while I was standing there watching this beautiful bear, I felt, like, sense movement

01:31 to the side.

01:32 And I looked, and there was a wolf.

01:34 And it was so quiet.

01:36 They don't make any noise.

01:37 And it just very quietly came out of Sir Forrest next to me, and we made eye contact.

01:44 And then two more wolves came out, and they were all there.

01:47 And I was on my own in the rain with these wolves.

01:51 And it was just the most magical, beautiful, exciting moment.

01:58 And I get chills even telling you about it.
