An elephant smashed through the front of a bus causing passengers to flee to safety.

The creature "strayed towards the national highway and wreaked havoc" according to locals in Parvathipuram Manyam, in southern India's Andhra Pradesh.

It charged into the vehicle and "the scared passengers got off the bus and ran to save their lives" on September 4.

The collision caused heavy traffic disruption on the Rayagada National Highway junction.
