young Singaporeans using social media has been the central task, trust of my campaign
00:07
strategy and I'm so glad that in the last three weeks I've been able to reach out to
00:13
so many young Singaporeans to see them doing social media, creating social media.
00:23
That is such an encouragement to me.
00:26
I think the most important thing is for us to inspire hope, hope in our younger generation
00:33
for the future.
00:34
I sense that there's a lot of anxiety about the future.
00:37
They feel that the future is not going to give them as much opportunities as in the
00:42
past.
00:44
So we must have this ability to encourage our young that if they do study hard, if they
00:51
work hard, Singapore has got plenty of opportunities for them.
00:56
So I talk about the three elements, self-help, government help, presidential help.
01:03
And I want to help younger Singaporeans specifically by helping them to be less stressed, hence
01:09
the practice of meditation.
01:11
I want them to develop more self-confidence, hence encourage them to take up public speaking
01:17
skills.
01:19
And above all, I want to encourage them to think about how to manage their personal finances,
01:26
how to save and how to invest properly.
01:29
Thank you, Mr Ng.
01:30
Mr Tharman, you're next.
01:32
Your time starts now.
01:34
I believe our young will write the next chapter of the Singapore story by being heroes in
01:41
their own stories.
01:43
And I don't just mean those who start off as star students, star sportspersons, but
01:50
every individual Singaporean.
01:52
We have a lot more potential in each individual Singaporean than we often recognise.
01:59
And it means not just telling everyone that it depends on them and they can make it, but
02:08
tapping on the power of collective support, peer support, teachers taking a particular
02:15
interest in the weaker student, giving them a chance, getting the reserves off the sidelines
02:21
and letting them play in the first team once in a while, letting everyone be a hero in
02:26
their own stories.
02:28
That's the next Singapore chapter.
02:30
And we can do it.
02:31
We can do it in the arts, in the sports, in academia, in science, in technology.
02:37
We've got a lot more potential than we often recognise.
02:41
Our brightest days are ahead.
