PE2023: Tan Kin Lian intends to ‘win as many votes as possible’ without 'support of tycoons'

00:00 I'm very happy to be receiving the approval to contest this presidential election.

00:08 I will work very hard over the next few days to win over as many votes as possible.

00:18 I hope that my supporters will elect me to be an independent president so that I can

00:31 do my best to use the influence of the President's Office to make life better for all the people

00:42 in Singapore.

00:43 My goals are to reduce the cost of living, to make housing affordable and to make jobs

00:56 secure and well-paid.

00:59 So thank you all for your support, for your messages of encouragement.

01:04 I thank all the people that I meet in the food court, in the market and in the MRT station

01:15 and for their very warm reception.

01:21 I hope that they will reflect the feeling of everybody in Singapore that I have not

01:27 met yet.

01:28 Together, I hope that by 1st September, we can have a president that will look after

01:37 the interests of all the people of Singapore.

01:41 My campaign symbol is "Living in Harmony".

01:48 The four figures represent the major ethnic groups in Singapore and they are all reaching

01:57 out to hope for a better future.

02:00 We already have got the centres ready, way ahead.

02:07 But I think my campaign manager wanted to get all the signatures today but I was afraid

02:15 that would be too risky.

02:17 If some of them don't come, then you will be disqualified.

02:23 So I asked him to quickly get all the signatures, so that was a last-minute rush.

02:29 His original plan was to get it all today, get everybody to come.

02:32 But I think it's too risky because the whole campaign, so much effort has gone in and it

02:39 could just fail for a technical reason.

02:42 The next nine days, I will have a walkabout because there are so many places in Singapore.

02:52 So even the nine days I've gone and another nine days, it's not enough.

02:58 So I will go on the walkabout.

03:02 And originally I planned to have a rally on Friday but I found that the venue is too expensive

03:11 and the expenses are too expensive and I don't have support of big tycoons.

03:19 So therefore I'm reconsidering whether instead of a rally, is there another way.

03:27 So this will be planned for the next few days.

03:30 Based on the interaction of the people I meet at the market, at the mall, and based on the

03:38 comments I receive on social media, I am confident.

03:44 In my social media, there is a group of people I consider malicious.

03:49 They are out to just attack, criticise me.

03:54 It's malicious.

03:56 So I exclude them.

04:00 And if I look at the people who are genuinely expressing their opinion, I'm very positive,
