PE2023: Tan Kin Lian alleges a ‘concerted effort’ to smear him by the media

00:00 Those polls were over a period of 10 years.

00:08 And if you take a look at the number of people who watched the polls over 10 years,

00:15 I believe it is more than 100,000.

00:18 And yet, and during that time, I don't have any objection.

00:24 So on this election, suddenly somebody raised to say, "Send a few photos."

00:34 And that person says, "I feel uncomfortable."

00:43 But there are 100, more than 100,000 people who watched the polls over 10 years.

00:49 Why do you feel uncomfortable now?

00:52 Of course, initially I thought that it is someone who just wants to create problems for me.

00:59 An individual person.

01:01 Later on, I realised that it is a concerted effort to smear me.

01:10 And I also realised that the media, the editors, are part of this arrangement.

01:20 I think it is, I want to say something to the media.

01:25 The people trust you to be honest and fair.

01:30 Now, how can you just smear me based upon something which is quite frivolous?

01:39 And you make it into a big issue.

01:42 So I think I will have to say about the honesty, integrity of the media.

01:50 From the report I get, most of them say it is rubbish.

01:56 And the way I am portrayed, just based on, in fact I wanted to write to AWARE.

02:06 "Please tell me what exactly do you find offensive?"

02:12 But I got no way to reach out to them.

02:15 "Please, what exactly do you find offensive?"

02:17 I also want to say this.

02:19 I did say there are some pretty girls.

02:24 But the pretty girls take the effort to dress up to be attractive.

02:30 And when I say that you are quite attractive, most of them actually feel quite happy.

02:38 I don't know why somebody would want to use that as a negative point.

02:44 And why the media, you take a look at all the articles there.

02:49 The media portray it as a big, big thing.

02:52 Anyway, that's all I want to say today.

02:55 I will say more about this at a better time.

02:59 But in case some other ladies, after reading this, think that they are uncomfortable,

03:10 I want to apologise to them.

03:12 I have no intention.

03:14 I have got a wife, I have got two daughters and three granddaughters.

03:22 I think the portrayal of me by the mainstream media is unfair and dishonest.

03:33 And I hope that the mainstream media take my message because it's not me.

03:38 Many people say they don't trust the mainstream media because it is not honest.

03:43 So I hope your editor pay attention to this.
