Transport Sec: Listen to Londoners and stop ULEZ expansion
Mark Harper described the ULEZ expansion as a “tax on hardworking Londoners” and said that it is unclear whether or not the measure would deliver against emissions targets at all.
The transport secretary said that “Londoners can see what this is, they don’t like it, and the Mayor of London should listen to them.” Report by Covellm. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn

00:00 Part of the problem is, my understanding is, in the consultation that he took place, actually
00:04 it wasn't very clear that this delivered against emissions targets at all. This is about raising
00:11 money, that's what people can see and that's what people objected to. It's why we had the
00:16 result, part of the reason why we had the result we did in the Uxbridge by-election.
00:20 Londoners can see what this is and they don't like it and the Mayor of London should listen
00:25 to them. It wasn't in his manifesto, it's a choice that he's made, it's his decision
00:30 and it's also for him to decide not to do it and put this tax, effectively a tax on
00:35 hard-working Londoners, £12.50 a day to drive their cars, £4,500 a year, it's his decision
00:40 and he should step away from it.
