Ed Miliband on the ULEZ expansion

Shadow Energy Secretary Ed Miliband says the ULEZ expansion has shown that "we can cut toxic air pollution".  He added that he doesn't think it would be "the right thing to do to get rid of this policy".

00:06 I have two teenage kids. I don't want them breathing in dirty air.

00:13 And look, I think it's really, really important about this, which is that devolution means that local mayors, local leaders,

00:19 make their decisions in the interests of the people that they represent.

00:24 And I think this is now a settled policy.

00:26 I don't think it would be the right thing to do to get rid of this policy.

00:30 I think what strikes me is that Sadiq has done everything he can to also help alleviate any costs that people face through his scrappage scheme.

00:37 He wants to expand his scrappage scheme further.

00:40 And I make this observation, which is the government both mandated action on clean air, the central government,

00:47 but they didn't give Sadiq any kind of help in helping people out with scrappage.

00:53 He's done everything he can to help out on scrappage and wants to go further.

00:57 And when you make these kind of decisions, of course there are going to be people who question them.

01:02 But I don't think anyone should be in any doubt about why Sadiq made this decision.

01:06 He made this decision because of the silent killer of air pollution in our country.

01:12 And we're seeing some kids go past us now, and it is for kids like them who are affected by this silent killer that Sadiq made the decision.
