00:00 - Uh, things going all right this summer?
00:02 - I'm having a very good summer.
00:04 - Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:06 And today we're counting down our picks
00:08 for the top 20 most awkward moments on late night.
00:11 - I've been to England once for two days.
00:15 I'll tell my story first.
00:16 - For this list, we're looking at the most horribly
00:18 embarrassing and difficult to watch incidents
00:21 on these programs.
00:22 We will not be including the news or daytime TV.
00:26 Which of these made you cringe the most?
00:28 Let us know in the comments below.
00:29 Number 20, Letterman grills Janet Jackson
00:32 about the Super Bowl.
00:33 Late show with David Letterman.
00:35 - I don't wanna relive any of that.
00:37 - All right.
00:38 You don't mind if I ask you some questions about it though?
00:40 - Janet Jackson's career was put in major jeopardy
00:42 on February 1st, 2004.
00:45 During the Super Bowl halftime show,
00:47 she was accidentally dressed down
00:49 by her co-performer, Justin Timberlake.
00:51 Jackson unfairly received the majority of the blame
00:54 for the incident and was boycotted by many groups.
00:57 Just under two months later,
00:59 she made a rather awkward appearance on Letterman.
01:01 Although Jackson clearly doesn't wanna answer
01:04 any questions about the incident,
01:05 he keeps pushing for answers and making jokes.
01:08 She increasingly gets more dejected
01:10 as Letterman keeps going.
01:12 While he tries to shift blame to Timberlake,
01:14 Jackson makes it clear many times
01:16 that she would much rather move on
01:18 from this uncomfortable interview.
01:19 - If you're gonna make me relive this,
01:21 I wanna put all that behind me.
01:23 - Well, not me.
01:25 Number 19, when Michael Richards apologized
01:28 with Jerry Seinfeld, late show with David Letterman.
01:31 - Hello, hi.
01:32 - How are you doing?
01:33 - I'm not doing too good.
01:35 - Michael Richards is another celebrity
01:37 who faced a career-ending controversy.
01:39 Only this one was his fault.
01:41 The comedian was filmed making a racist tirade
01:43 against hecklers at the Hollywood Laugh Factory in 2006.
01:47 Richards tried salvaging his reputation
01:49 by appearing on Letterman via video
01:50 next to his old co-star, Jerry Seinfeld,
01:53 present for moral support.
01:54 Unfortunately, it only made things much worse.
01:57 The audience giggles throughout the whole thing
01:59 through either awkwardness or a pure misunderstanding
02:03 if his appearance was a bit or not.
02:05 Ironically, the interview felt like a Seinfeld scene
02:08 in real life.
02:09 This failed salvage attempt was later parodied
02:11 by numerous shows and people, even Richards himself.
02:15 - Said some pretty nasty things to some Afro-Americans,
02:20 a lot of trash talk.
02:22 And, uh... (audience laughing)
02:24 - Stop laughing, it's not funny.
02:26 - Number 18, Bobcat Goldthwait set a chair on fire,
02:29 The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
02:31 - I don't wanna be rude, Jay, but that's, whatever.
02:33 - That's what?
02:35 - Some people just like causing trouble
02:37 and watching the world burn.
02:38 Goldthwait just might be one of them.
02:40 Only in this case, he started with a chair.
02:43 During his appearance on Jay Leno,
02:45 Goldthwait stood up and randomly set the furniture on fire.
02:48 Leno professionally runs with the bit.
02:51 However, the audience clearly doesn't know how to react.
02:55 The fire setting is met with some uncomfortable laughter
02:57 and immediate attempts to douse the flames.
03:00 After Leno awkwardly forces Goldthwait
03:02 back into the doused chair,
03:04 the comedian slips on his way off the stage,
03:06 you know, just to add to the cringe of it all.
03:08 - You think I'm like a dog?
03:09 You're gonna rub my nose in it?
03:10 - Sit in that chair, sit down in that chair.
03:14 Now, where's it going now?
03:15 (audience laughing)
03:17 - The comedian was forced to pay over $3,000
03:20 in fines and reimbursements for making everyone feel awkward.
03:24 Number 17, when Jimmy Fallon and Dakota Johnson
03:27 knocked on each other's teeth.
03:29 The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
03:30 - I broke this tooth, this one's fake.
03:33 - Let me feel it.
03:33 (audience laughing)
03:35 - It's not gonna feel different, it feels like a tooth.
03:37 - There are a few things we never thought we'd see
03:39 on late night TV and people tapping on each other's teeth
03:42 is certainly one of them.
03:43 Jimmy Fallon brings up the fact that a gap
03:45 in Dakota Johnson's teeth had closed.
03:47 That led to an extended discussion
03:49 about their respective dental work.
03:51 This bizarre detour gets stranger when Johnson asks
03:54 to feel the host's fake tooth before proceeding
03:57 to tap on it with her nail.
03:58 Even Fallon looks confused about the whole thing,
04:01 but he later responds and taps on Johnson's teeth as well.
04:04 Their chemistry is admittedly great.
04:06 However, there is a degree of weirdness
04:09 about the whole thing that makes
04:10 for a rather uncomfortable watch.
04:12 - Let me tap on your tooth.
04:13 - Okay.
04:14 (Dakota laughing)
04:17 (audience laughing)
04:18 - Number 16, when David Letterman
04:20 and Shirley MacLaine clashed,
04:22 late night with David Letterman.
04:23 - For certain celebrities,
04:25 heading onto late night in the 80s was akin
04:27 to throwing raw meat into a hungry lion's cage.
04:30 Dave mellowed out in his later years,
04:32 but early on he could be quite confrontational
04:35 or as Shirley MacLaine calls him.
04:37 - Maybe you are an (beep)
04:38 (audience laughing)
04:41 - Partway through this interview,
04:43 Dave wanted to talk about Shirley's belief in reincarnation,
04:45 but the actress didn't think there was time to do so.
04:48 - Just checking if it is real.
04:49 - It is, sure it's real.
04:51 - And as Dave kept pushing the topic,
04:52 MacLaine let Dave know what she thinks of him.
04:55 What's truly remarkable about this scene
04:57 is that neither guest nor host attempted to make up
05:00 or play nice for TV.
05:02 And the barbs just kept coming
05:04 until the interview mercifully ran out of time.
05:07 - Is there anything else that you wanna leave us with
05:08 before it's time to go?
05:09 - You're the interviewer, you tell me.
05:10 You wanted me here for three years, I'm here.
05:13 (David laughing)
05:16 - I think we'll probably wait another three.
05:18 (audience laughing)
05:20 - Number 15, when Andy Dick was escorted away by security,
05:24 Jimmy Kimmel Live.
05:25 - Andy, please, Donald Trump will kill both of us.
05:28 - Andy Dick has seen his fair share of controversies
05:31 throughout the years, and he's no stranger
05:33 to being hauled away by authority figures.
05:35 Back in 2007, Dick appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live
05:38 alongside Ivanka Trump and seemingly took a liking to her.
05:41 He repeatedly strokes her bare leg.
05:44 Initially, Kimmel and Trump try to downplay
05:47 his creepy behavior,
05:48 but after he continues to touch her inappropriately,
05:51 he's quite literally dragged off stage by security.
05:54 A ton of music and smiles try to hide
05:56 how uneasy the whole affair was,
05:59 but things only feel okay
06:00 once Dick was completely removed from the stage.
06:03 (audience cheering)
06:12 Number 14, when Guy Ritchie had open contempt
06:15 for David Spade, Jimmy Kimmel Live.
06:17 - So I think we ate at Planet Hollywood.
06:19 I think we just, anything desperately,
06:21 thirstily trying to get attention.
06:23 (audience laughing)
06:26 Now you go.
06:27 - Since late night shows depend heavily
06:29 on talking with guests, it can be incredibly painful
06:31 when someone is just not in the mood.
06:33 David Spade learned that the hard way
06:35 when he was filling in for Jimmy Kimmel
06:37 and tasked with interviewing famous director, Guy Ritchie.
06:40 We use the word interviewing very lightly here,
06:43 as there wasn't much of that going on.
06:46 It begins well enough with some friendly banter,
06:48 but when Ritchie shuts down,
06:50 Spade has to carry the segment solo.
06:52 With what must have been a really sore back,
06:54 Spade later emailed Kimmel and asked if this was a prank.
06:57 - After that interview, you sent me an email
07:00 and I think you were serious when you said this.
07:02 You were like, was that a prank?
07:03 - Yeah, I thought he tricked me.
07:05 I thought you put in a guy to be tough on me.
07:08 Number 13, when Bill Burr and Sarah Silverman had it out.
07:12 I love you America with Sarah Silverman.
07:14 This conversation between Burr and Silverman
07:16 was so cringe and confusing
07:19 that we're still not sure what happened years later
07:21 and neither is the internet.
07:23 - 'Cause every time we fight, as I'm driving home,
07:25 I get a text from you that says, you know I love you, right?
07:28 I'm like, oh yeah, I love you too.
07:29 - That isn't me.
07:30 - Either these two are very close
07:32 and are just taking the piss out of each other
07:33 or this was an impromptu therapy session
07:35 exploring their likes and dislikes for each other.
07:37 - I do like you and I just,
07:39 I've always feel like you're frustrated with me.
07:41 - And honestly, not knowing for sure
07:42 makes it all the more uncomfortable.
07:44 To be fair to Sarah though,
07:46 Burr is usually on the defensive when it comes to interviews
07:48 and doesn't exude much in terms of emotion,
07:51 unless you count sarcasm and paranoia.
07:53 So all things considered,
07:54 it could have gone much worse, right?
07:56 - It comes from something from your childhood
07:59 or something like that,
08:00 taking time bomb that your dad was
08:02 or things like that that were out of your control
08:04 and you don't like feeling out of control
08:07 or people telling you what to do.
08:09 That's my theory.
08:10 - This is so uncomfortable for you, I love it.
08:11 - It feels like an emotional intervention.
08:14 - Number 12, when Bill O'Reilly
08:16 and David Letterman talked politics.
08:18 Late show with David Letterman.
08:20 - Am I right about one thing?
08:21 You guys over there at Fox and guys like Rush Limbaugh,
08:25 you guys know it's all just a goof, right?
08:28 You're just, you're just, you're just horsing around.
08:31 - They say you should never talk about religion or politics.
08:34 The topics are too complex.
08:36 People are defensively passionate about them
08:38 and one wrong word can lead to a fierce argument.
08:41 It's a piece of advice that David Letterman
08:44 and Bill O'Reilly should have taken.
08:45 O'Reilly was one of the most prolific
08:47 political commentators of the time.
08:49 During his shows,
08:50 he was known for sticking hard to his opinions.
08:53 His determination met Letterman on late night.
08:56 The comic host gets into a hostile argument with his guest.
09:00 As a result, the segment is imbued
09:02 with a really dark and uneasy tone.
09:04 Watching people vehemently argue about politics and war
09:07 doesn't really make for entertaining late night TV.
09:10 - I don't wanna hear about the bad world that we live in.
09:14 It's an evil world that we live in.
09:16 Let me ask you something.
09:18 And this is a serious question.
09:19 Do you want the United States to win in Iraq?
09:21 - Number 11, when Donald Trump appeared on Colbert,
09:25 the late show with Stephen Colbert.
09:27 - I also want to apologize to you
09:30 'cause I've said a few things about you over the years
09:33 that are, you know, in polite company,
09:37 perhaps are unforgivable.
09:39 - Since Colbert and Trump are on opposite ends
09:41 of the political spectrum,
09:42 putting them in a room together
09:44 was always gonna be a risk.
09:45 Sometimes oil and water just don't mix,
09:48 and there's no forcing them to mix.
09:50 Trump appeared on Colbert in September, 2015,
09:53 shortly before being elected president.
09:55 There's a jokey and faux-friendly tone to the conversation.
09:58 However, there's also thinly veiled contempt
10:01 between the two.
10:02 There's a rough patch where Colbert's attempt
10:04 to joke about Trump's immigration policies
10:06 gets suddenly serious.
10:08 In the end, it feels like the politician
10:10 is just making a campaign stop
10:12 instead of a late night appearance.
10:13 Despite Colbert's best attempts
10:15 to keep things light and fun,
10:17 the interview comes out as awkward.
10:19 - I wanna hear this one.
10:20 - Barack Obama, born in the United States.
10:24 - Number 10, when Kanye West compared himself to Jesus,
10:27 Jimmy Kimmel Live.
10:28 - When I compare myself to Steve Jobs
10:31 or Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, David Stern,
10:34 Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Jesus, or whatever it is,
10:38 I'm saying these are my heroes.
10:39 - To say that Kanye West has said his fair share
10:41 of controversial things throughout the years
10:43 would be an understatement.
10:44 When he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live back in 2013,
10:47 he made some truly bizarre comments.
10:50 During a monologue,
10:51 West called himself a creative genius
10:53 and compared his output to the likes
10:55 of Leonardo Da Vinci and Jesus.
10:57 West also went on several long tangents
11:00 that often had nothing to do with the questions
11:02 that were actually being asked.
11:04 While Kimmel largely kept everything on the rails,
11:06 the whole conversation still felt off.
11:08 This wouldn't be the last time
11:10 that West gave an awkward interview on the show.
11:12 The musician later discussed his affiliation
11:14 with Donald Trump and his extremist views.
11:17 - I mean, you so famously and so powerfully said,
11:20 "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
11:22 It makes me wonder what makes you think
11:25 that Donald Trump does or any people at all.
11:29 - Number nine, when Norman Mailer went after Gore Vidal,
11:32 the Dick Cavett show.
11:34 It's hard to imagine any interview in this day and age
11:36 starting out with a headbutt backstage,
11:37 but that's just what happened here.
11:40 Cavett's infamous interview
11:41 featured two literary heavyweights
11:43 squaring off over their intense dislike of one another.
11:46 - I would apologize if it hurts your feelings,
11:49 of course I would.
11:50 - No, it hurts my sense of intellectual pollution.
11:52 - Well, I must say as an expert, you should know about it.
11:56 - Mailer was a critic of the feminist movement
11:58 and Vidal took his views to task in an essay
12:01 where he likened Mailer's misogyny
12:03 to that of serial killer Charles Manson.
12:05 - Perhaps you'd like two more chairs
12:07 to contain your giant intellect.
12:08 - Mailer, who had been drinking,
12:11 was furious with Vidal's article
12:13 and subsequently couldn't maintain his composure in person,
12:16 headbutting and cursing Vidal backstage
12:18 while openly insulting everyone,
12:20 including the host and female guest on stage.
12:23 Talk about intense.
12:24 - You act as if you were the only people here.
12:27 - Aren't we?
12:28 They're here, he's here, I'm here
12:31 and I'm becoming very, very bored.
12:34 - My.
12:34 - Number eight, when Abel Ferrara went off the rails,
12:39 late night with Conan O'Brien.
12:41 If you've seen Ferrara's 1992 film "Bad Lieutenant",
12:44 you would know that the director
12:46 is not afraid of controversy,
12:47 which Conan acknowledged
12:48 while inviting him on stage at his old show.
12:51 - I wanted to ask you about the--
12:53 - Conan. - There you go.
12:54 All right. - Dennis.
12:55 - Cool.
12:56 - You just passed our sobriety test here, all right.
12:58 - I know.
12:59 - So not surprisingly, controversy is exactly what ensued.
13:03 Ferrara was accused of showing up drunk,
13:05 refusing to go on stage and at one point,
13:08 even leaving the NBC studio,
13:10 requiring staff members to track him down.
13:12 - I wanna talk about Harvey Keitel.
13:13 - How's the baby, did you say?
13:14 - I wanna talk about Harvey Keitel.
13:16 - Go ahead.
13:17 Where is he?
13:18 I'll kick his ass, where is he?
13:20 - And if you thought that sounds like a mess,
13:22 just watch the interview.
13:23 Ferrara is barely audible at times,
13:26 slurring and rambling incoherently
13:28 to the point where Conan suggests viewers
13:30 will need subtitles to understand him.
13:32 Conan later admitted that in his entire career,
13:34 Abel Ferrara was by far the absolutely worst guest
13:38 he's ever interviewed.
13:40 Number seven, when Jimmy Kimmel mocked Jay Leno to his face,
13:43 the Jay Leno Show.
13:45 Remember the late night wars?
13:46 - And this is for kids at home,
13:48 if you have silly putty to make yourself
13:49 a nice big Dudley do-right chin, that works too.
13:51 (audience laughing)
13:53 - Well, Jimmy Kimmel sure had a take
13:54 and he didn't take kindly to Jay Leno's actions,
13:57 ruthlessly mocking and impersonating Jay
13:59 during Leno's drawn out tonight's show dust up
14:01 with Conan O'Brien.
14:02 - I don't think people care about what I have to say.
14:05 - I agree with that.
14:06 - Yeah, I mean, you're like.
14:07 - Tomorrow night, ah, tomorrow night's bad for me.
14:11 All right, let's move on.
14:12 - For some odd reason, Leno's producers
14:14 then thought it would be a good idea
14:15 to have Kimmel on Jay's new show.
14:17 And well, it plays out exactly as you would expect.
14:21 Leno clearly hates Kimmel's impression of him
14:23 and Jimmy takes every opportunity
14:25 to insult Jay on his own show.
14:28 - But the best, I think the best prank I ever pulled was,
14:30 I told the guy, I told the guy that five years from now,
14:34 I'm gonna give you my show.
14:36 And then when the five years came, I gave it to him
14:38 and then I took it back almost instantly.
14:40 - Watching Leno forcing himself to laugh
14:42 while Jimmy drops bombs on him
14:44 is the equivalent of having to smile
14:45 while being punched in the face.
14:47 Number six, when David Letterman hounded Paris Hilton,
14:50 late show with David Letterman.
14:52 Unfortunately for celebrities,
14:54 interviews don't always go as discussed beforehand,
14:57 especially when attempts at comedy
14:59 are made at their expense.
15:00 In 2007, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail.
15:04 This was of course publicized,
15:06 but the star obviously did not wanna talk about it.
15:09 - How'd you like being in jail?
15:11 (audience laughing)
15:14 - Not too much.
15:17 - She appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman"
15:19 with the intention of promoting and discussing
15:21 her new perfume and projects.
15:23 Letterman, however, had different ideas
15:25 and began to extensively question her
15:27 about her time in jail and her friend, Nicole Richie's.
15:30 - Have your friends treated you differently
15:33 since you've been out of the slammer?
15:35 - No.
15:36 - He also had questions about the food there
15:39 for some reason.
15:40 - I've moved on with my life,
15:41 so I don't really wanna talk about it anymore.
15:43 - I know.
15:44 - In fact, he's just unfair at some points
15:47 and we kinda wish there was a referee present
15:48 to stop the fight.
15:49 - But now you're making me sad that I came
15:51 'cause you're hurting my feelings.
15:52 - Oh, no, no, no, please, oh, no, please, don't be sad.
15:53 Are you really sad?
15:55 No.
15:56 Are you feeling better now?
15:57 - Number five, when Andy Kaufman fought Jerry Lawler,
16:01 "Late Night with David Letterman."
16:02 - Was this thing fixed or rigged?
16:04 Are you guys really friends?
16:05 Is it, was it a scam? - No, not at all.
16:07 I can warm up to this guy, we were cremated together.
16:10 - Many people refer to Kaufman as a comedian,
16:12 but he labeled himself a quote, "song and dance man,"
16:16 and he gained fame for his unconventional approach
16:18 to fame and entertainment.
16:19 One of his many ventures was professional wrestling.
16:22 During his career, he entered into a staged feud
16:25 with Jerry Lawler.
16:26 The two appeared together on "Late Night with David Letterman."
16:29 The tension culminated in the wrestler
16:31 slapping Kaufman out of his chair.
16:33 In turn, the comedian screamed obscenities at Lawler.
16:36 It's a brilliant piece of performance art,
16:38 but no one knew that at the time.
16:40 They thought it was real, and for them,
16:42 the encounter was horrifically tense.
16:45 - I'm sorry to use those words on television.
16:47 I apologize to all my fans.
16:48 I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
16:50 - Number four, when Crispin Glover
16:52 nearly kicked Letterman in the face,
16:54 "Late Night with David Letterman."
16:55 - You wanna arm wrestle? - No.
16:56 - I've been taking, you know, I've been taking,
16:58 these aren't mine.
17:00 I can, I can, I can kick.
17:02 - Okay, okay.
17:04 I'm gonna go check on the top 10.
17:05 - On the night of July 28th, 1987,
17:08 Crispin Glover made an unforgettable late night appearance.
17:11 He donned a wild wig, jittered around erratically,
17:14 and spoke nervously.
17:16 Glover seemed to be incredibly uncomfortable
17:18 just sitting in place,
17:19 but things really went south
17:20 after the actor challenged Letterman to an arm wrestle.
17:23 After Letterman refused, Glover did a wild kick
17:26 that was aimed in the host's direction.
17:28 Most speculate that his behavior was simply early publicity
17:31 for the movie "Rubin and Ed,"
17:33 in which Glover acts in a similar manner.
17:35 However, the actor has never divulged his real motivation,
17:39 and it remains tantalizingly elusive.
17:42 - You enjoy that, Paul?
17:42 - It was an interesting segment.
17:46 - I think that's the first time
17:47 that we've been doing this show
17:48 that a guest actually tried to kick me.
17:50 - Number three, when Jennifer Garner got schooled,
17:53 late night with Conan O'Brien.
17:55 Conan went to Harvard,
17:57 and while that doesn't always mean anything,
17:58 he is clearly a sharp guy.
18:00 - There's a time when you snuck into the room to see what--
18:02 - I sneaked into the room.
18:03 Snuck isn't a word, Conan,
18:05 and you went to Harvard and you should know that.
18:06 (audience laughing)
18:10 - So Jennifer Garner probably shouldn't have called out
18:12 O'Brien for his ultimately correct language usage
18:14 before mocking his education
18:16 at one of the best universities in the world, but she did.
18:20 Luckily, it was all in good fun, but being the nerd he is,
18:23 Conan couldn't let the opportunity pass
18:24 to whip out a dictionary and school Garner, quite literally.
18:28 - I keep a dictionary down here and I just found it.
18:30 Just wanna look at, what the hell, look right here.
18:33 Snuck, past and past part of sneak.
18:37 - Jennifer goes from confidently and enthusiastically
18:40 talking about her latest role to utter silence.
18:43 With more than a hint of embarrassment,
18:45 as Professor O'Brien rubs it in.
18:47 (laughing)
18:49 Number two, "When Madonna Let Loose,"
18:53 late show with David Letterman.
18:55 Just like you never know how a Letterman interview will go,
18:58 you never know how a Madonna guest appearance will turn out.
19:01 - I gave him my underpants and he won't see.
19:03 (audience cheering)
19:06 - But we know one thing for sure,
19:07 everyone at the FCC was having a collective heart attack
19:10 during this profanity-ridden, innuendo-driven,
19:13 filthily funny interview.
19:15 Oh, where to begin really?
19:17 Countless F-bombs and anatomy jokes are one thing,
19:19 but it's Madonna's constant insistence
19:21 that Dave's obsessed with her sexually,
19:23 and while never denying this claim,
19:25 Dave's flirty behavior that really make this one
19:28 for the ages.
19:29 - You can't get through a show without talking about me
19:31 or thinking about me.
19:32 (laughing)
19:34 - Do they like each other?
19:36 Do they loathe each other?
19:37 Just what are we watching here?
19:39 It feels like either a fight or a snog fest
19:41 is about to break out,
19:42 and both outcomes are equally worrisome.
19:45 - I get a big kick out of you and I--
19:46 - Really, no way.
19:47 - It wouldn't just, you know--
19:48 - No part of your body.
19:49 - I think you're a nice--
19:49 - Where?
19:50 - You know, I think you're a decent, nice person, you know?
19:53 - Uh-huh.

20:09 Number one, when Joaquin Phoenix seemed nutty.
20:12 Late show with David Letterman.
20:14 Looking back, we know Phoenix had a whole schtick
20:16 that turned out to be a wacky piece of performance art
20:19 for a mockumentary that he and Casey Affleck were making.
20:21 But in 2009, the world collectively thought
20:24 that the actor had fully lost his mind.
20:27 - Is there something wrong?
20:28 - I can't be the first one to make you feel weird about it.
20:30 (laughing)
20:32 - No, I guess not.
20:33 - He claimed he was transitioning to a career in hip hop,
20:36 yet he could barely string two sentences together
20:38 in real time.
20:39 - I do more hip hop music.
20:42 - Hip hop music.
20:43 (laughing)
20:45 - Is this a joke?
20:45 (laughing)
20:48 What do you have them on?
20:50 - Was he drunk, high, sick, dying?
20:54 For every time someone asked one of these questions,
20:56 the outcome was a torrent of opinion pieces
20:59 and endless speculation that filled the internet for months.
21:02 Yet the one thing we did not get
21:04 for over a year and a half was answers.
21:07 Joaquin returned to Late Show in 2010
21:09 and apologized for his behavior.
21:11 But even that interview was a little awkward.
21:13 - But I apologize, I didn't,
21:15 I hope I didn't offend you in any way.
21:17 - Oh no, oh no, no, no, no.
21:18 I was not offended.
21:20 I'm telling you, it was so much fun.
21:22 It really, it was good.
