The Pillar of Shame was erected in Hong Kong as a powerful reminder of the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989. But as China tightened its grip on Hong Kong’s freedoms, the sculpture was dismantled and hidden from public view. It is now up to all of us to keep the memory of the victims alive.
