he 'father of the atomic bomb' is Robert Oppenheimer. On July 16, 1945, at the Trinity Test Site in New Mexico, Oppenheimer saw the first nuclear weapon explode. He cited the Gita, saying, "Now I become death, the destroyer of worlds," as he observed a large blaze looming over the sky. The Bhagwad-Gita, a sacred literature treasured by Hindus and offering a philosophy for navigating the journey known as life, is where the quote actually comes from in chapter 11 verse 32. Oppenheimer never declared himself a Hindu or converted to the religion. He was significantly influenced by Vedic philosophy, perhaps more than anything else.
