00:00 Great to see you, as always.
00:02 Will any of this matter to Teflon Trump?
00:04 Teflon Trump, you use the term there.
00:06 We used to use that with other presidents.
00:10 Right now, the political impact is extremely hard to judge.
00:12 We do know that from Trump's perspective, the perspective of his followers, his allies,
00:17 his camp, his supporters, those who pay fealty to him in Congress, not really.
00:22 We know the Trump playbook by heart.
00:24 We know it so well by now that Americans, not just Americans, the whole world looking
00:28 on has become numb to the outlandishness.
00:31 And that's the only word to use.
00:32 The outlandishness of the man's comportment, his behavior, his steeds, what he says, he's
00:39 created a whole new dimension, a whole new threshold for what constitutes something that
00:44 will actually raise your eyebrows.
00:46 So all of this has to be taken in that context.
00:49 Now, this indictment is of a whole other level, dimension of gravity from the hush money payment
00:55 indictment that we saw in New York a couple of months back.
00:59 Much more serious charges, as we heard Kay Devon talking about, right?
01:02 We're talking about, you know, allegedly violations of not of keeping national defense secrets
01:09 at your private residence in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements,
01:14 conspiracy to obstruct justice by not letting federal agents get those documents back after
01:19 multiple attempts over many months to try to do so, so on and so forth.
01:23 These are grave charges.
01:25 But the question you're asking me, will it make a difference in the Trump universe in
01:29 Magga land?
01:30 It will not make any difference.
01:31 The only difference it might make is actually lead some of them to double down, to embolden
01:37 them, to make them more inclined than ever.
01:40 Those who already support Donald Trump to support him even more.
01:43 The Trump playbook, we know it by heart.
01:45 We've already seen it in that video.
01:47 Trump will denounce, call it a witch hunt, denounce the Justice Department and the federal
01:52 officials calling it already Biden's Justice Department as corrupt, as nothing but a witch
01:58 hunt by corrupt and partisan Democrats.
02:01 He will lash out, try to demand the fealty of Republicans all around him, and he will
02:07 use it to his advantage to raise money, fundraise, get the base even more beholden to you and
02:12 lash out at the partisanship of the Democrats who are witch hunting you.
02:17 During the last election, when Trump faced off with Hillary Clinton, he went after Clinton
02:21 over her use of a server.
02:23 Now it seems that the chickens have come home to roost for him.
02:26 But let's talk about...
02:27 There's an irony there.
02:28 There is.
02:29 It's totally...
02:30 Or hypocrisy, whichever word you want to use.
02:31 Let's talk about a public opinion in the United States.
02:34 Where do things stand when it comes to Trump?
02:35 Because he is very popular.
02:38 He's as Ketavan mentioned, that 30 points ahead of Ron DeSantis.
02:41 Look, the whole race, as we know, any presidential race, not just the 2024, because of the American
02:47 Electoral College system really comes down to, you know, handful.
02:50 We're talking tens of thousands, maybe 100,000 or so voters in a handful of so-called swing
02:54 states and a lot of those voters happen to be in deeply red, rural, conservative countries.
02:59 You could argue the Electoral College already plays in Donald Trump's favor.
03:03 For a popular vote, you might say that he would face a lot more legal jeopardy and peril
03:07 from these indictments.
03:09 There was a survey taken by USA Today, Suffolk, a survey back in April, April 15th, I believe,
03:14 to 23rd or so.
03:16 They question, surveyed 600 Trump voters and supporters, 600 Biden voters and supporters.
03:22 What's interesting here is among the Trump voters and supporters, two thirds said not
03:27 a single indictment, whether we're talking the hush money payments to an adult film actress,
03:31 the alleged payments there, whether we're talking this, whether we're even talking potential
03:35 further investigations right now.
03:37 Jack Smith also looking at Donald Trump's alleged efforts to reverse his 2020 election
03:41 loss, his alleged involvement in the Capitol attack on January 6th, that mob that attacked
03:46 the Capitol, a separate inquiry in the state of Georgia to try to reverse the results in
03:52 that swing state, that crucial state in the election.
03:54 All of that, all of those cases will make little difference to about two thirds of Trump
03:58 voters.
03:59 Let me translate that.
04:00 That means for about 66% of those who voted for Trump, it will not make a whit of difference
04:07 this indictment or any possible indictments to come down the pipeline.
04:10 It will not budge the needle an inch.
04:14 Interesting stuff.
04:15 Thank you very much for that Doug.
04:16 Douglas Herbert there.
