Glasgow headlines 23 March: Council health and social care cuts described by union as ‘devastating’
  • last year
Glasgow’s Health and Social Care Partnership has announced almost £22 million in cuts to services, resulting in the loss of 197 full-time staff.

The GMB union said this would have a devastating effect on those who rely on services, while the council defended the move, putting it down to inflationary pressures.

Next, Easterhouse’s Daffodil Club, which has provided lifeline care to elderly people for more than 30 years, is facing closure due to the financial crisis.

The organisation said they only have enough money in reserve to operate for six more months, putting it down to budget cuts and a drop in charity funding.

The authority said their funds were oversubscribed, with money granted to those most in need.

And in other news, the August House has launched a monthly boozy brunch event, offering a variety of packages on the first Saturday of every month.

The Glitterball Brunch will begin on 1 April and can be booked through Skiddle.
