Glasgow headlines 24 February: Council says it doesn’t have enough homes to house refugees
  • last year
Glasgow City Council’s leader, Susan Aitken, has said they do not have enough free homes to house almost 1,000 Ukrainian refugees who are currently living on a cruise ship docked in Braehead.

The ship’s contract to accommodate displaced persons ends on 31 March, and while the authority has committed to finding alternatives, Councillor Aitken said it looks likely they’ll have to rely on other areas.

Next up, the former SNP MP for Glasgow East, Natalie McGarry, has lost an appeal to reduce the length of her conviction.

The former politician is currently serving charges for embezzlement, but claims she was not given a fair trial due to social media posts.

And in other news, plans to build 160 unusual flats next to Ibrox stadium have been granted planning permission.

In its proposal, Merchant Homes seeks to build two four-story U-Shaped buildings, each containing 80 two bedroom flats.
