Severe Dust Storms Hit Midwestern States
Several states in the Midwest were hit with severe dust storms on Thursday, and cell phone footage from residents on the ground captures the intense scenes.

Although some mistakenly thought the swirling dust clouds were caused by tornados, they actually were caused by a different weather event called a ‘derecho,’ which occurs when a series of fast-moving thunderstorms and high winds (100 mph or more) converge together on a given region.

One specific area of the Midwest encompassing parts of Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa reported ‘significant structural damage,’ with an estimated 70,000 people without power, per the Washington Post.
