Alley Oop: William Branham's Comic Strip Demon

Throughout his ministry, William Branham introduced several claims of being visited by angelic beings and demons to make his sermons sound more appealing. Sometimes, as versions of his stage persona transitioned from one to another, the descriptions and timelines of these alleged visitations were re-invented to become either more appealing or to match the details for new versions of his stage persona. The timeline of his alleged “visitations” and “commissions” changed so drastically that they ranged from before or during his birth to his early or late teens, to various dates throughout his ministry. In fact, one of the dates used for his alleged “commission to heal the sick” transitioned to after the first recorded sermon that is available to the public and several years after he was holding healing revivals.

The most interesting of these “visitations” was his claim to have been visited by a demon that looked like a Sunday morning newspaper comic strip. Branham claimed that the demon “looked like Alley Oop from the funny paper”. Alley Oop is a fictional caveman from the fictional “Bone Age”, appearing in newspapers since 1933.
