US braces for post-holiday Covid-19 surge

Doctors and health officials expect Covid-19 cases in the US to swell following Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The recent increase in infections nationwide is comparable to January 2021 levels, but hospitalisations rates are much lower, federal data shows. In contrast, four states – Michigan, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire – are hitting record high hospitalisations. Cases requiring hospitalisation are also rising among children.
