A deadly ambush unfolded in northern Idaho, United States on Sunday (June 29) as firefighters responding to a blaze on Canfield Mountain came under sniper fire, killing at least two, believed to be fire personnel.

00:09fire on Sunday, resulting in at least two deaths and hours of gunfire in what the governor condemned
00:15as a heinous attack. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said emergency crews were
00:21dispatched to a fire on Canfield Mountain, just north of Coeur d'Alene, around 1.30 p.m.
00:29Gunshots were reported roughly 30 minutes later. Sheriff Bob Norris said the two victims are

01:11multiple directions, suggesting more than one shooter was involved. Authorities issued an alert
01:17urging the public to avoid the area around Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road,
01:23about 6.5 kilometers from downtown Coeur d'Alene. The fire remained active as of Sunday evening.
