Assam: 21 Districts Flooded, More Than 3 Lakh People Affected

The flood situation in Assam is getting worse.Two people have lost their lives. Over 3.63 lakh people have been suffering in the deluge across 21 districts. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one child each drowned in the floodwaters at Chenga in Barpeta district and Mayong in Morigaon. ASDMA said 950 villages are under water and 30,333.36 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam. 44 relief camps and distribution centres are operating in 10 districts, where 1,619 people, including 321 children, are taking shelter. 10 NDRF teams have been deployed in the state. ASDMA said a total of 2,56,144 domestic animals and poultry were affected in the deluge. As per a report issued by the Central Water Commission, the Brahmaputra is flowing in \"above normal to severe flood situations\". Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I pray for the safety and well-being of those living in the affected areas.” Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswas Sarma tweeted, “Current flood has gravely impacted livelihoods of people.” Watch the video to know more.
