Also known as The Saga of Anatahan, is a 1953 black-and-white Japanese film war drama directed by Josef von Sternberg (The Blue Lady).The World War II Japanese holdouts on Anatahan (an island in modern-day Northern Mariana Islands, USA) also inspired a 1998 novel, Cage on the Sea.
In 1944, the American Air Force sinks a Japanese supply convoy. The survivors reach an island that is only inhabited by the couple Kusakabe and Keiko. The survivors began to covet Keiko, the only woman on the island, and tensions quickly rise.
