Anastasio band’s longtime bassist Tony Markellis’ cause of death has raised many questions after the legend passed away today (April 30, 2021) in Saratoga Springs, New York; May he rest in peace.

The heartbreaking death was confirmed by his nephew who shared the news on his Facebook site and Twitter.

As a founding member of the Vermont-based jazz-fusion group Kilimanjaro and the Unknown Blues Band featuring Big Joe Burrell, Tony Markellis played along with stars like Trey Anastasio, Paul Butterfield, The Mamas & the Papas, Johnny Shines, David Bromberg, David Amram, Paul Siebel, Rosalie Sorrels, Eric Von Schmidt, Ellen McIlwaine, Mary McCaslin, Railbird, Jo Henley, and Floodwood.
