ऑस्ट्रेलियाई कप्तान टिम पेन ने माफ़ी मांगी है. सिडनी टेस्ट मैच में हुए स्लेजिंग घटना पर टिम पेन ने आर अश्विन से और टीम इंडिया से भी माफ़ी मांगी है. टिम पेन ने कहा है कि एक कप्तान होने के नाते मुझे उदाहरण पेश करना चाहिये था. पर ऐसा मैंने नहीं किया. प्रेस कांफ्रेंस में टिम पेन ने टेस्ट मैच से जुडी कई बातों पर अपनी सफाई पेश की. साथ ही टिम पेन ने बताया कि आखिर क्यों स्टीव स्मिथ ने ऋषभ पंत के गार्ड्स को मिटाया था. इस पूरे मामले पर पेन ने कहा, "मैंने स्मिथ से इस मसले पर बात की है. जिस तरह से यह सामने आया है उससे स्मिथ वास्तव में निराश हैं. अगर आपने स्मिथ को टेस्ट क्रिकेट खेलते हुए देखा है तो वह हर मैच में पांच-छह बार ऐसा करते हैं. वह अक्सर क्रीज पर शेडो बल्लेबाजी का अभ्यास करते हैं. निश्चित रूप से वह पंत का गार्ड बदलने की कोशिश नहीं कर रहे थे."

Australia captain Tim Paine on Tuesday defended Steve Smith and said the Aussie batsman was not trying to change Rishabh Pant's guard. Smith was caught on camera scuffing the crease on Day 5 of the Sydney Test when Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara were building a solid partnership that was igniting hopes of a win in the Indian camp. Speaking at a press conference, Paine said that Smith is disappointed with how his actions are being perceived, but it was just a routine exercise he does in every game. Paine further said that if there was changing of the guard marks, the Indian team would have taken up the issue.
