South Korea is fighting not only COVID-19 but also avian influenza... affecting birds at its poultry farms.
Today the authorities have issued a nationwide standstill for vehicles and personnel at poultry farms for 24 hours... so that disinfection work can be done.
Avian influenza is brought into Korea this time of year by birds migrating south from Siberia.
There have so far been 22 cases this year, prompting the culling of tens of thousands of chickens and ducks.
This strain of avian influenza, H-5-N-8, is highly pathogenic in birds but not so in humans.
