President Moon Jae-in says South Korea will work to set higher targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions as it works to build a carbon-neutral society.
In a video statement Saturday for the Climate Ambition Summit 2020 marking the fifth anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement Moon said that South Korea will be developing green industries through its Green New Deal initiative combined with digital innovation.
Taking the climate crisis as an opportunity for inclusive and sustainable growth, we will create new jobs and share the experiences and achievements of our Green New Deal policy with all the other countries of the world.
Moon added that South Korea, before the end of the year, will formulate long-term development strategies for low greenhouse gas emissions... and that it will submit to the UN... its revised Nationally Determined Contribution for 2030.
By 2030, Seoul plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 37 percent from the business as usual levels.
President Moon also asked countries to take active part in the P4G Summit, which South Korea will host in May next year.
