유엔 위원회, 北 인권결의안 채택...정부도 채택 동참

The United Nations' committee for humanitarian issues passed by consensus a resolution slamming North Korea's human rights violations.
And while South Korea did not co-sponsor the resolution... it did take part in reaching this year's consensus.

The UN Third Committee, which oversees humanitarian issues, has adopted a resolution condemning North Korea's human rights violations.
The resolution was reached by consensus without the need for voting.
It has been adopted every year since 2005, and will be brought to the UN General Assembly meeting in December.
The resolution drafted by EU member-states expressed concerns over the grave human rights violations in the North.
This year, the resolution also included human rights concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also called for the resumption of reunions for families separated during the Korean War,... and urged the regime to engage in dialogue with Seoul.
North Korea's UN Ambassador Kim Song slammed the move,... insisting the violations stipulated in the resolution do not exist in the North.
However, many countries, including the U.S. endorsed the resolution,... saying a clear message must be sent.
Last month, the Trump administration labeled North Korea, along with China and Iran, as the most aggressive abusers of religious freedom in the world.
South Korea did not co-sponsor the resolution, but did endorse it, as it did last year.
Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday this was to align South Korea with the international efforts to substantially improve the human rights of people in North Korea.
