China is one of numerous countries closely monitoring the U.S. presidential election,... but it has not yet released its official position on the matter.
Regardless of who wins, Beijing is signaling that it is gearing up to confront Washington going forward.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
China watched the U.S. presidential election with bemusement and mockery,... with its state-run media focusing on the problems of the country's election scheme.
Ahead of Election Day, it also showed images of election-related violence.
However, Beijing is taking a wait-and-see approach.
"The U.S. election is its internal affairs. China doesn't take a position on this issue."
Overall, the Chinese government sees there would be no major difference regardless of who becomes the next leader of the U.S.
In his keynote speech via video link at the opening ceremony of the third China International Import Expo and Hongqiao International Economic Forum,... Chinese President Xi Jinping signaled that Beijing is readying itself for continued competition with Washington.
"In face of the challenges brought about by economic globalization, we should not resort to unilateralism or protectionism to the detriment of international order and norms. Instead, we must reform the global economic governance system in a constructive manner."
Many other countries, including Japan are also closely watching the U.S. election,... with its foreign minister highlighting that Tokyo has a strong interest regardless of who wins,... adding that it must be monitored closely.
