In the area of Raikot Gilgit, rock carvings can be found from old civilizations. In this 200 km long area, more than 4 lacs rock carvings are present. The government has decided to make Diamer Bhasha Dam which will destroy them all. These rock carvings are historical treasures which must be preserved. A local resident told that the area might be turned into a small museum in order to preserve these writings. The authorities might also try to save it digitally by taking pictures. Thousands of Buddhists and other tourists come each year to check out these ancient rock carvings.
