코로나19 신규확진 155명…42일만에 최다

On to the Covid-19 situation here in South Korea.
At 155, the daily virus tally posted soared to a 42-day high with many of the cases found at nursing homes and long-term care hospitals.
Jang Tae-hyun reports.
South Korea reported 155 cases on Friday the highest number of cases in 42 days.
Of those, 138 were local and 17 were from overseas.
Most of the local cases were centered in the capital region, with 98 cases from Gyeonggi-do Province.
The number is going up due to cluster infections at high-risk facilities such as rehabilitation hospitals and nursing homes.
"As there are cluster infections at long-term care hospitals and similar facilities, please refrain from visiting those places for a while. Since yesterday, we have been checking the disinfection management of long-term care hospitals and facilities and psychiatric hospitals nationwide."
Many of those at nursing facilities are seniors and could have underlying diseases, so they are at greater risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19.
The government has said it is keeping an eye on the situation and added that people should follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines like wearing face masks.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said Friday that the upcoming Halloween weekend is another risk since it could cause cluster infections at clubs and bars.
There are 62 severely ill patients... and with two additional deaths, the death toll has reached 455.
The total number of cases stands at 25-thousand and 698.
