The fodder scam was a scam in which fraud of crores of rupees were committed on fake bills. From leaders to officers, big names were coming up in the scam. But the biggest name was of Lalu Prasad Yadav. At that time Lalu was also the national president of the Janata Dal. In June 1997, the governor permitted the CBI to file a charge sheet in the case.
