COVID-19 preventive measures at expressway rest areas during Chuseok holiday

Although it's expected to be much smaller this year, there will be a considerable size of the Korean population traveling on the nation's expressways to make their way to their hometowns this Chuseok holidays.
Expressways here in South Korea are well known for the many rest stops dotted along the way and the delicacies there. But, as part of virus prevention measures this holiday season, only takeouts will be allowed for the next week.

The Chuseok holiday is when people visit their families across the country.
Due to the pandemic, more people are choosing to take their own vehicles to get home,... which means that they will be visiting rest areas located along the expressway.
To minimize the risk of more COVID-19 outbreaks,... the South Korean government decided not to waive the expressway toll this holiday and applied further special virus prevention guidelines starting from September 29th to October 4th.
First, travelers wishing to use the rest area facilities will be required to sign a visitor's log, use a QR code, or even call ahead to check in before use.
"People can call the virtual number with their phone and it will be automatically saved in our server. So, people can enter the rest area without taking other steps."
The process is simple and people don't have to worry about privacy issues because they are not writing down their personal information.
There are also changes to the dining areas during the holiday period.
"During the Chuseok holiday, people won't be allowed to dine in at rest area cafes and restaurants their only option is to take the food away."
Rather, people should bring food to their cars and eat it there.
And to minimize the spread of the coronavirus, the expressway rest areas are being disinfected at least twice a day.
The government is also advising people to follow the three COVID-19 prevention guidelines wearing a face mask, staying in the rest area as short as possible and keeping 2 meter distance from others.
