The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has found that the Centre violated its own law on the Goods and Services Tax regime and retained Rs 47,272 crore of the GST compensation cess that meant to be used specifically to compensate states for loss of revenue, during the financial year of 2017-’18 and 2019-’19.

पिछले सप्ताह ही केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने संसद में जानकारी दी थी कि राज्यों को जीएसटी क्षतिपूर्ति देने के लिए कन्सॉलि​डेटेड फंड ऑफ इंडिया से फंड जारी करने का कोई कानूनी प्रावधान नहीं है. लेकिन, सीएजी का कहना है कि खुद सरकार ने ही इस नियम का उल्लंघन किया है. CAG का कहना है कि वित्त वर्ष 2017-18 और 2018-19 में केंद्र सरकार ने जीएसटी क्षतिपूर्ति का 47,272 करोड़ रुपये CFI में ही रखा है.
