This year's Nobel Prize award ceremony, traditionally held in Sweden's Stockholm in December every year, has been cancelled and instead will be replaced with a live televised event amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The winners of Nobel Prizes will each receive their medals and diplomas in their own countries.
This is the first time the Stockholm award ceremony is being cancelled since 1944.
The Nobel Foundation had already cancelled the Nobel Prize banquet, slated for December, marking the first banquet cancellation since 1956.
The ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize, also to be held in December, will be scaled back due to the outbreak.
