코로나19 난리 통에 그리스 최대 난민캠프 전소

It's time now for our Thursday edition of Arirang's 'The World Now'. I'm Kim Jae-hee.
We begin with devastating fires that have ravaged Greece's largest migrant camp.
Fires broke out suddenly at the overcrowded migrant camp on a Greek island on Wednesday, leaving thousands of migrants and refugees in need of emergency shelter.
"Thousands of people have been displaced over the night, they are still scattered in places where we cannot reach them."
Greek authorities said that the fires were started by camp residents angered by isolation orders, which were imposed after 35 people tested positive for COVID-19 at the camp.
"The real series of events is still being investigated. What is certain is that the fire was started, because of the quarantine, by asylum seekers in the facility."
He also said there has been no report of injuries due to the fire.
However, the fires had destroyed the camp and left its residents homeless.
A four-day state of emergency has been declared on the Greek island starting from Wednesday.
More than 12-thousand people were living in and around the camp, which is far above its maximum capacity of less than three-thousand people.
