K-pop superstars BTS have kept the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row.
This is not the first time that the group have reached number one in a Billboard chart... but this particular chart is more significant.
Kim Sungmin explains.
BTS have held the top position on the Billboard Hot 100 for over two weeks with their English-language hit song 'Dynamite'.
While they already have hit number one on the Billboard 200 four times, experts say, their latest success is much bigger.
"The Billboard 200 chart is related to album sales... which usually depend on the size of an artist's fan base. Since BTS has a relatively big group of die-hard fans, we could expect the group to do well in that chart. But the Billboard Hot 100 is very different because it reflects radio airplay and streaming numbers... so it means the music was chosen by the U.S. public in general."
Over the past week,... the title song has had around 17-point-5 million streams in the U.S. as well as selling 182-thousand downloads and drawing 16 million radio airplay audience impressions.
And data shows, the recent success of BTS could give the Korean economy a significant boost.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, BTS reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart is expected to encourage more production in a range of industries and stimulate exports of BTS related products..., creating a total value of almost one-and-a-half billion U.S. dollars.
"When a Korean celebrity wins an award or hits number one in a foreign country, this helps spread Korean culture in general. If more countries know about our culture, then consumption will follow. They will buy more Korean products, such as cars."
Also, if demand for Korean products increases, companies will need more workers to produce them..., leading to job creation.
The band's accomplishment is forecast to create around eight thousand jobs.
Along with the record-breaking success on the Hot 100 chart, 'Dynamite' also topped the Digital Song Sales chart for the second straight week.
