K-pop boom as BTS and other K-pop stars take the spotlight

Turning now to some entertainment news,... K-pop stars have been taking over the global music industry.... especially with the new BTS album going viral globally, knocking off shelves in the U.S. and the U.K.
And the rising success of these K-pop groups is contributing a great deal to the Korean economy.
To tell us more about their phenomenal achievements.... Arirang's Seo Bo-bin joins us in the studio.
So Bo-bin,.... let's start off with just how well the K-pop stars are performing overseas, not just on stages but in sales as well.
Hi Da-eun, the very first K-pop stars that come to mind these days are BTS. The seven-member group have been smashing record after record.
They have had massive success in the global music charts, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 once again this week with their new album 'MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA' released last Friday. This is the third time that a BTS album has scored a Billboard number 1… after their last albums 'Love Yourself: Tear' and 'Love Yourself: Answer'. They also look set to reach number 1 on the U.K. Official Chart, in what would be a first for a South Korean artist.
BTS will also be participating at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards next month, collaborating with U.S. singer Halsey. And this will be the second year in a row that BTS will be performing at the Billboard Music Awards. The group has also been nominated in the Top Duo/Group category and as well in the Top Social Artist category.
BTS recently held a press conference where they mentioned the Billboard Music Awards and how much love they have received from their fans. Take a listen.
"To be honest, I want to say that we want to receive awards in both categories, but realistically I'm not sure whether that will happen, but hopefully we can win an award in one of the categories."
"Although we speak different languages, we want our fans to know our true feelings through the stories and songs that we show onstage."
And BTS were also on TIME magazine's list of '100 Most Influential People' of 2019 in the 'artist' category.
BTS continues to make history with their smashing albums,... but we can't leave out the other K-pop stars who are also making big on global stage?
Well, yes Da-eun. Other K-pop stars BLACKPINK and NCT 127 have also made an impact on the global stage recently.
K-pop girl group BLACKPINK made history by being the first South Korean girl group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. They will also be appearing on Stephen Colbert's CBS talk show on Thursday local time. And their new single "Kill This Love" entered at No. 41 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the highest-charting single ever by a K-pop girl group. It also debuted at No. 24 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. And another boy band NCT 127 will also appear on ABC's Good Morning America to promote their tour of 11 North American cities, which kicks off on April 24th...
