The head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is willing to bypass the full federal approval process in order to make a COVID-19 vaccine available as soon as possible.
In an interview with The Financial Times,... Stephen Hahn said an emergency authorization could be appropriate before phase three clinical trials are completed,... if the benefits outweigh the risks.
He added it's up to the vaccine developer to apply for approval,... and for the FDA to decide on giving it the green light.
Brazil, which has the second most COVID-19 cases,... is also looking into fast tracking its approval process for a potential vaccine,... which normally takes up to 60 days.
