The World Health Organization has warned against blind faith in blood plasma treatment for COVID-19.
The health body's chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said in a video press briefing Monday that blood plasma therapy is difficult to standardize since people produce different amounts of antibodies.
She added that, despite clinical trials, "low quality evidence" necessitates further evaluation of the treatment method.
Senior adviser Dr. Bruce Aylward also cautioned that convalescent plasma therapy can cause side effects, ranging from a fever to severe lung-related injuries.
