Usually at this time of the year, South Korea would be dealing with a heat wave and tropical nights.
But this year, the monsoon is still over the country, more than a month after it first arrived.
Last night, torrential rain slammed southern and central areas, and even more rain is in store for today.
Lee Kyung-eun reports.
Monsoon rain has slammed the central and southern parts of South Korea.
The central city of Daejeon, is among the hardest hit …with some areas receiving more than 2-hundred-60 millimeters of rainfall.
In an apartment complex, cars are flooded, and people are trapped inside the building waiting for the fire services to rescue them.
With the water level reaching people's waists, even boats have been used for the rescue.
Elsewhere, streams are overflowing.
And high-speed rail services have been delayed due to flooded tracks.
The city had a brief respite around dawn, but has received another round of torrential rain through the morning.
It's a similar situation in Chungcheong-do and Jeollabuk-do provinces, where heavy rain alerts have been issued.
These places could get up to 2-hundred millimeters of rain on Thursday.
Elsewhere in the country, 80 millimeters is expected for northern Gyeonggi-do Province,...while 5 to 40 millimeters of rain is in store for other regions, including Seoul.
This monsoon rail will come to an end on Friday for southern regions.
But the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts,...on-and-off heavy showers will continue in central regions until next week.
"Heavy rain is forecast for central regions over the weekend, and the monsoon is expected to continue into next week.
If the forecast is correct, it would be one of the longest monsoon seasons ever recorded in South Korea.
Previously, the latest the monsoon has ended was August 10th in 1987, followed by August 4th in 2013, and August 2nd in 1991.
