It has emerged that the first confirmed instance of coronavirus transmission within South Korea's school system could've been a secondary infection.
Health authorities said the elementary school transmission in Daejeon infected one student who was in close contact with the first confirmed student.
However, the other, is a classmate who sat far away from him and went to the same private academy, but at different times.
If the secondary infection is confirmed, public opposition to schools staying open could rise.
Well over 500 schools have closed as of Thursday due to continued cluster infections sprouting up outside the capital.
The education ministry says quarantine measures at schools are conducted in a thorough manner and it's too early to discuss shutting every school in the country.
