S. Korea's unemployment payouts hit new record in May

A record of 830 million U.S. dollars were paid out in unemployment benefits in South Korea last month as the COVID-19 pandemic slammed the job market.
Data from Seoul's labor ministry shows... allowances paid to jobseekers in May were up 34 percent on-year... and the number of people who received the payment was also up just about that much reaching an all-time high of 678-thousand.
