The city of Bucheon, roughly 25 kilometers west of Seoul, has been at the center of the latest surge in cases, mostly surrounding logistics facilities and warehouses of large e-commerce comapanies.
But, the cluster infection is already leading to other transmissions within the city and nationwide.
To put tabs on any further transmissions, the city of Bucheon is back to aggressive testing and tracing.
Our Lee Kyung-eun is there.
"The city of Bucheon is back on aggressive testing.
It has established this new triage center at the city's sports complex.
And nine testing sites and seven consulting booths have been set up here."
Some 76 medical staff are here, ready to diagnose suspected patients.
On the first day of its operation on Tuesday, the center received some four hundred visitors.
And more than nine hundred people came on Wednesday.
Setting up this testing center was one of the first actions the city took to contain the fast spreading cluster infection that broke out at a logistics center.
It was set up only three days after the first patient from the distribution center was confirmed on May 23rd.
The city had previously said that it would test some 4-thousand people who have come in contact with the patients,... and it aims to speed up the testing by using this center along with three other sites.
At the same time, the city has swiftly returned to stronger social distancing measures.
The second phase of school reopening has been postponed.
All school classes have been switched to online classes, except for high school seniors who will still be going to school every day.
And even though the attendance rate at local daycare centers currently stands at 73 percent, all institutions are advised to shut down temporarily.
Sports facilities have also been shut down until next week.
Given that the cluster has already triggered other possible clusters in a call center in Bucheon as well as another logistics center in the neighboring city of Goyang, the city aims to use these measures to prevent the local chain of infections from developing into what experts worry could be a nationwide second wave.
