To fight the coronavirus pandemic, South Korea has been deploying robots to take people's temperatures and disinfect hospital rooms.
Not only does this protect hospital staff, it's expected to lead to further developments both in robotics research and applications.
Park Se-young has more.
Coronavirus patients fill the halls of hospitals in Italy, but there's a severe lack of medical staff.
Other countries like Spain also face a lack of medical personnel as well as continued infections among the staff members.
In Korea, sterilization robots that use environmentally-friendly ultra-violet light for disinfection will be deployed in negative pressure hospital rooms.
Transport robots can not only deliver hospital gowns but also help move medical devices.
"Because we need to minimize the risk of infections among medical staff, we think robots can help prevent the overloading of medical professionals in the case of non-face-to-face services."
Robots are expected to be increasingly utilized …as they can help medical personnel with disinfection and quarantine tasks while reducing the risk of infection.
And robots equipped with artificial intelligence are expected to help develop new medicines.
