The growth of online shopping, especially in the pandemic, has put a strain on South Korea's delivery infrastructure, and most of all on its delivery workers.
In the future, it's expected that robots will provide a solution, and progress is already being made in that direction with help from the South Korean government.
Park Se-young has more.
This self-driving mail delivery vehicle is loaded with packages.
The vehicle, ...which can serve as a post office, ...has a digital kiosk inside that allows users to pick up their parcels.
"It can operate on campuses and in parks, downtown areas or airports. Its maximum speed is 25 kilometers per hour. It's driving at 12 kilometers an hour on campus."
Korea Post has also developed an autonomous robot that uses artificial intelligence to deliver post inside buildings ...and helps postal workers by carrying heavy packages.
These technologies could soon be a common site in Korea.
"I believe it will be the starting point for future postal logistics services. It will not only be more convenient for customers, but also reduce accidents and improve working conditions for postal workers."
As South Korean companies race to develop delivery technology, ...the government will ease regulations and provide support for technical development and verification.
